Multiple Tamil Films Reschedule Releases To Avoid Clash With Vijay's Jana Nayagan

The official announcement of the theatrical release date for actor-politician and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Vijay’s upcoming film 'Jana Nayagan' on July 23 has triggered a wave of rescheduling across the Tamil film industry in Tamil Nadu. Multiple filmmakers and production houses have postponed their projects to avoid clashing with the highly anticipated film.
Among the major films affected is 'DC', which marks the acting debut of director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Originally scheduled for release on July 31, the action drama has now been pushed to August 7 by its production banner, Sun Pictures. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film also stars Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy.
Actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar also announced a delay for his upcoming film, 'Immortal'. The movie was initially set to debut on the same day as 'Jana Nayagan' on July 23. Following the announcement, Prakash shared that the release of 'Immortal' has been postponed to September 4 to make way for Vijay's film.
Similarly, the biographical film 'G.D.N', starring Madhavan as the Indian inventor and engineer GD Naidu, has been postponed from its planned July 17 release. While the makers have not officially cited 'Jana Nayagan' as the reason, the decision is speculated to have been influenced by the announcement. Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, 'G.D.N' also features Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Thambi Ramaiah, and Vinay Rai. A new release date has not yet been announced.
Other films scheduled for late July are also facing uncertainty. 'Sathyavan Savithri', starring Keerthy Suresh and Mysskin, is currently slated for July 24, just one day after 'Jana Nayagan' hits theatres. Meanwhile, 'Sigma', which marks the directorial debut of Vijay's son Jason Sanjay and stars Sundeep Kishan, is currently scheduled for July 31, though updates on its release plans are expected in the coming days.
The release date for 'Jana Nayagan' was confirmed recently, coming a week after the film received its certification from the Central Board of Film Certification.
