MTC Buses Frequently Skip Stops on Key Routes Including Tambaram Services

Commuters relying on Metropolitan Transport Corporation services in Tambaram and other parts of Chennai are facing widespread inconvenience as buses frequently skip designated stops during both peak and non-peak hours.

The issue has left numerous passengers stranded along major corridors. While MTC officials have acknowledged receiving complaints on a daily basis regarding the practice, they have not disclosed the specific extent or number of violations occurring across the network.

A significant volume of grievances has emerged regarding specific routes, notably those operating through southern hubs. Affected services include route P91 running between Tambaram and Kilambakkam, and route 66 connecting Tambaram with Kundrathur. Complaints have also been frequently reported on route 91 between Tiruvanmiyur and Kilambakkam, as well as route 6D operating between Toll Gate and Tiruvanmiyur.

Consumer activist Sadagopan T stated that the complaints visible on social media platforms represent only a small fraction of the actual problem. He noted that many commuters either lack the time to escalate these incidents to senior transport authorities or do not know the appropriate channels to file formal complaints.

Commuters have reported direct experiences of buses bypassing waiting passengers even when schedules indicate upcoming arrivals. S Saravanan, a resident of Pallavaram, recounted waiting at the Asarkhana bus stop to board a service toward Nandanam. Despite tracking the approaching vehicle on the Chennai One App, the bus drove past without stopping for the gathered commuters.

The MTC currently maintains a fleet strength of 4,100 buses and operates 3,858 daily services across nearly 700 routes, handling an estimated 33 lakh passengers every day across the metropolitan region.
