Mother, Infant Daughter Killed as Truck Hits Motorcycle Near Madhavaram Roundabout

A 28-year-old woman and her six-month-old daughter died on Saturday morning after a container truck hit the motorcycle they were riding pillion on near the Madhavaram Roundabout in Chennai. The woman’s husband, who was riding the motorcycle, survived the crash with injuries and was hospitalized.
The deceased have been identified by the police as Sharmila and her infant daughter, Prithiksha. Sharmila’s husband, Nithyanantham, 36, is a private company employee. The family resided in Kumaran Chavadi, a locality situated near Poonamallee.
According to the local police, the fatal accident occurred while the family of three was traveling on the motorcycle. They were on their way to visit their relatives' house located in Perambur when the vehicle was struck.
An unidentified container truck traveling behind them hit their motorcycle from the rear. The impact of the collision threw all three family members off the motorcycle and onto the road.
Sharmila and her six-month-old daughter, Prithiksha, fell directly under the front wheels of the heavy container truck. Both the mother and the infant died on the spot due to the impact. Nithyanantham, who was also thrown onto the road, suffered injuries but survived.
Following the collision, passersby and witnesses at the busy junction rushed to the aid of the family. They rescued the injured Nithyanantham from the road and arranged for him to be transported to a government hospital for medical treatment.
Upon receiving information about the tragic accident, personnel from the Madhavaram traffic investigation wing rushed to the spot. The police officers recovered the bodies of Sharmila and Prithiksha from the road.
The bodies were subsequently sent to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for postmortem examinations.
Meanwhile, the driver of the container truck did not stop at the scene. He abandoned the vehicle or fled the spot immediately after the collision. The Madhavaram traffic investigation wing has registered a case and launched an active search to track down and arrest the fleeing truck driver.
