Mogappair School Teacher Arrested for Hitting Class 6 Student With Hammer

A 46-year-old physical education teacher at a private school in the Mogappair locality of Chennai was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly struck an 11-year-old Class 6 student with a hammer. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, left the young student with a fractured wrist and led to the teacher's suspension and subsequent arrest.
The accused teacher has been identified as C Levin. Following the physical assault, the school management placed Levin under suspension. He was later arrested by the JJ Nagar police and has been remanded in judicial custody.
According to the police, the confrontation took place on Tuesday when the Class 6 student was standing in the middle of a play area. At the time, school staff were arranging the play area for kindergarten children. Levin reportedly became angered by the student's presence in the area and allegedly tried to hit the boy with a hammer.
In an attempt to protect himself from the blow, the 11-year-old boy raised his hands to shield his face and body. However, the hammer struck the boy's wrist, causing a fracture. After the incident, the student returned home and informed his mother about the physical assault by the teacher.
The student's mother then approached the private school's management to report the incident and demand immediate action against the physical education teacher. However, she alleged that the school management did not take any immediate steps to address her grievances or discipline Levin.
Faced with inaction from the school, the mother proceeded to lodge an official complaint against the teacher with the JJ Nagar police station. On Tuesday evening, the injured boy was taken to a hospital to receive medical attention for his fractured wrist.
Following the mother's complaint, the JJ Nagar police questioned Levin on Wednesday. After the questioning session, the police officially arrested Levin. The physical education teacher was subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
