Medavakkam Hosts Inaugural Super Chennai Community Vibes Event

Residents across Medavakkam gathered at Navin’s Starwood on August 9 for the inaugural edition of Super Chennai Community Vibes, a neighbourhood-led initiative designed to bring fitness, culture, and creative activities directly into residential localities.

Held between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., the event drew participation from families living at Navin’s Starwood as well as residents from the wider Medavakkam area, according to a press release from organizers Super Chennai. The initiative aims to shift community engagement away from large city-wide venues and into neighbourhood spaces where people live.

The morning programme offered multiple activities tailored for different age groups. Children and families had the opportunity to play and rediscover traditional and native games that are becoming less common in urban environments.

Hands-on workshops were also organised for younger participants, including live abacus, crochet, and art sessions. These workshops allowed parents and children to interact, learn, and create together in an informal setting.

Cultural and musical showcases formed a central part of the morning. Popular music band Maayavisai performed on the main stage, while a Bharatanatyam team from the local community staged a classical dance performance. Traditional Tamil folk art forms, including Thappattam and Mayilattam, were also featured, providing attendees with close-up experiences of native performances.

A dedicated music zone was arranged to provide a relaxed environment for residents to gather and connect. Super Chennai indicated that the event at Navin’s Starwood serves as the starting point for a planned series of community experiences across various neighbourhoods in Chennai.
