Mason Dies After Handrail Collapses on Him in Chromepet

A 62-year-old construction worker died on Saturday after being trapped under debris when a staircase handrail collapsed during repair work at a house in Ranga Nagar, Chromepet.

The deceased was identified as Kumar, a mason residing in the Nagalkeni area of Chromepet.

According to the Tambaram police, Kumar was carrying out repair works at the residential property in Ranga Nagar when the under-construction staircase handrail gave way. The falling structure collapsed directly onto him.

Kumar became trapped underneath the rubble and died on the spot.

Personnel from the Shankar Nagar police station recovered Kumar's body from the debris and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
