Man Traced to Manipur for Murder of Pregnant Woman in Guduvanchery

A 38-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly murdered at a rented house on Mosque Street in Guduvanchery by her lover after she refused to undergo an abortion and insisted on marriage, police said.

The victim, identified as Hayathun Nisha, a native of Odisha, was killed earlier this month. Investigators stated that the accused shaved and smashed her head to conceal her identity before packing her dismembered body into a red suitcase, which was then placed aboard the Tamil Nadu Express.

The train departed Chennai Central for New Delhi on August 3. The crime came to light two days later, on August 5, when railway police inspected an unclaimed suitcase in a general compartment at Agra Cantonment railway station and discovered the remains inside.

Because the train originated in Chennai, investigators began reviewing surveillance footage from Chennai Central and various stations along the route. Security cameras captured a man and a woman carrying the suitcase, allowing the police to trace their trail back to the rented premises in Guduvanchery.

Utilising CCTV footage, mobile phone tracking, and additional technical evidence, the Guduvanchery police tracked the suspects to Kashimpur in the Jiribam district of Manipur on Saturday.

The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Manik Uddin Laskar, originally from Assam, and his wife, Bhagabati Majhi, a native of Odisha.
