Man Arrested in New Washermenpet for Duping Two Brothers of Rs 26.5 Lakh Over Govt Jobs

The New Washermenpet Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly defrauding a car driver and his brother of Rs 26.5 lakh by falsely promising to secure government employment for them and their spouses.
The accused, identified as Davith Raja, worked at the Tamil Nadu Government Press. According to the police, the issue dates back to 2018 when the complainant, 39-year-old Murali of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Kodungaiyur, applied for the post of office assistant in the Labour Welfare Department. During that period, Murali was introduced to Davith Raja.
Davith Raja subsequently invited Murali to his house in New Washermenpet. During the meeting, Raja claimed that he and his mother, who was employed in the Finance Department, had close ties with several government officials and had assisted numerous people in securing government posts.
He promised to secure a driver's post in the School Education Department for Murali and a laboratory technician role for Murali's wife, demanding Rs 6.5 lakh for each position. Convinced by the claim, Murali paid Raja Rs 13 lakh in two installments.
A few months later, Davith Raja and his mother informed Murali that two additional vacancies were open in the Finance Department. Murali then sought those employment opportunities for his younger brother, Siva, and Siva's wife. Raja demanded payment for arranging those posts as well, after which Siva and his wife handed over Rs 13.5 lakh to him.
However, Davith Raja failed to secure any of the promised positions. In 2020, he delayed addressing the matter by citing the COVID-19 pandemic, and he subsequently failed to return the total amount of Rs 26.5 lakh collected from the family.
Following a formal complaint filed by Murali, the New Washermenpet Police registered a case and initiated an inquiry. Following their investigation, police arrested Davith Raja.
