Man arrested for harassing woman and assaulting husband at Kilambakkam Bus Terminus

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday night after he harassed a newly married woman and assaulted her husband at the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus (KCBT) in Chennai. The incident occurred at around 10:30 PM at the transport hub. The victims, a newlywed couple residing in Manapakkam near Porur, had reached the terminus to travel to their native place in Polur, Tiruvannamalai district.
According to the police, the couple was walking along the platform at the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus to board their bus when the incident occurred. The accused, identified as 23-year-old Bala from Panruti, approached the couple in an inebriated state. Bala then began harassing the newly married woman on the platform.
When the husband and wife objected to his behaviour, Bala reacted violently. He attacked the husband in front of his wife, which led to a physical scuffle between the two men.
The altercation was witnessed by several fellow passengers who were waiting at the platform. The bystanders immediately intervened to protect the couple. The passengers managed to overpower Bala and thrashed him on the spot.
After subduing the accused, the fellow passengers handed Bala over to the police personnel who were stationed on duty at the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus.
Following the incident, the newly married woman lodged a formal complaint with the local police. Based on the complaint, the Kilambakkam police registered a case against the accused. Bala was subsequently arrested by the police for his actions.
