Madras Medical Mission and TANKER Foundation Host Renal Pathology Workshop

The Madras Medical Mission (MMM) and the TANKER Foundation organised a specialized medical workshop titled ‘Renal Pathology Made Easy & Transplant Immunology’ at The Madras Medical Mission in Chennai on August 8.

Organised jointly by the hospital's Departments of Nephrology and Pathology, the programme brought together a multidisciplinary group of medical specialists and trainees. Participants included nephrologists, pathologists, nephropathologists, transplant physicians, transplant surgeons, and immunologists.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Mumtaz Patel, President of the Royal College of Physicians, London. S. Pushkala, Vice-Chancellor in-charge of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, was present as the guest of honour.

Throughout the sessions, participants examined key topics in nephrology and pathology. The programme covered common kidney diseases and detailed how kidney biopsies are utilized to diagnose various renal conditions. Sessions also addressed complications that occur following transplantation, newer treatment approaches for membranous nephropathy, and the mechanisms of transplant immunology.

The academic sessions were conducted under the leadership of Georgi Abraham, Advisor to the Department of Nephrology at The Madras Medical Mission and President and Founder Trustee of the TANKER Foundation.

The primary objective of the workshop was to foster academic exchange and build stronger collaboration between clinicians and pathologists working in the fields of nephrology, renal pathology, and organ transplantation.
