Lotte India Clarifies No Ban on Choco Pie Following Durg FDA Action

Chennai-headquartered confectionery manufacturer Lotte India, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Lotte Corporation, has clarified that there is no ban on its Choco Pie product following regulatory action by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Durg, Chhattisgarh.
The clarification from the company was issued amid reports following the Durg FDA’s intervention, which had raised public concerns regarding the safety of the snack.
According to Lotte India, the regulatory action was strictly related to a single production lot, identified as Batch No. NM10DC2. The specific batch was manufactured on April 10, 2026, with an expiry date listed as April 9, 2027.
The company stated that independent testing conducted by a third-party NABL-accredited laboratory confirmed that preservative levels in the affected batch were well within permissible limits. The laboratory assessment confirmed that the product complied fully with applicable food safety standards.
Lotte India explained that it had initiated a voluntary recall of the concerned batch solely as a precautionary measure while the test results were being independently assessed. The company emphasized that the recall was limited strictly to that individual batch and did not apply to Lotte Choco Pie as a wider product line.
Addressing widespread speculation, the company stated that reports suggesting Lotte Choco Pie has been banned or that the product as a whole has been declared unsafe are incorrect.
Lotte India reiterated its commitment to food safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance, adding that it will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities and take all necessary steps to resolve the matter.
