LCC Demands Permanent Posts at Egmore Hospital and Relief for Deceased Doctor's Family

On July 13, 2026, the Legal Coordination Committee (LCC) for Government Doctors urged the State government to address critical healthcare grievances, including the immediate creation of permanent academic and clinical posts at the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) centre inside the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Hospital for Women and Children in Egmore.
According to a statement issued by the LCC, the State government has not yet sanctioned dedicated permanent posts for this specialised unit. To sustain the facility, the association requested the immediate creation of one post of professor, one post of associate professor, and two posts of assistant professors.
Beyond the staffing of the Egmore centre, the association highlighted the plight of the family of Vivekanandan, a government doctor who died during the COVID-19 pandemic. The LCC appealed directly to the Chief Minister to grant a government job to the doctor’s wife and provide comprehensive livelihood relief. The committee noted that the family has been running from pillar to post for over five years, contrasting this with the administrative speed that saw government employment orders provided to the kin of Karur stampede victims within 60 days of the administration assuming office.
The LCC also called for the immediate implementation of Government Order 354. This order ensures Dynamic Assured Career Progression and pay band-4 within 12 years of service for government doctors, aiming to bring salaries on par with neighbouring States and Union Territories such as Karnataka and Puducherry.
Finally, the association demanded that the sanctioned strength of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff across all government hospitals be doubled to match private sector infrastructure. The LCC emphasized that these combined measures are essential to sustain specialized healthcare facilities, secure livelihood relief for the deceased doctor's family, and upgrade public healthcare infrastructure.
