Kavin and Nayanthara Star in Director Vishnu Edavan's Family Drama 'Hi'

Director Vishnu Edavan's Tamil family entertainer 'Hi', starring Kavin and Nayanthara in lead roles, has been released in theatres across Chennai. The film, designed in the mould of classic family dramas popularized by filmmakers such as KS Ravikumar, Vikraman, Visu, and V Sekhar, also marks one of the final on-screen appearances of late veteran filmmaker and actor Bhagyaraj.
The narrative centers on Mayilsamy, played by Kavin, a sensitive Coimbatore man who flees to Chennai after his family attempts to arrange an unwanted marriage following an emotional rejection. Simultaneously, Devayani, portrayed by Nayanthara, elopes from Pollachi to Chennai on her wedding day to escape an abusive alliance arranged by her alcoholic father.
The two characters encounter each other on a rainy evening in the city. The core plot unfolds when Mayilsamy impulsively fabricates a story about his relationship with Devayani to their families, setting off a chain of interactions between the two households.
The supporting cast features veteran actor Prabhu as Devayani's father and Radikaa as Mayilsamy's mother, alongside Bhagyaraj as Mayilsamy's father. Additional roles are portrayed by Adithya Kathir, Khureshi, Sathyan, and Amrutha Srinivasan, who plays a costume designer friend assisting Devayani in Chennai.
Featuring music composed by Jen Martin, 'Hi' focuses on low-stakes family dynamics, emotional confrontations, and traditional comedic elements as both lead characters navigate their families' expectations.
