The victim, Tamilarasan, was found critically injured on the roadside at Kannikapuram following the assault. He was initially admitted to Tiruttani Government Hospital and was later shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Jayakumar, a construction worker from Katpadi. According to investigators, Jayakumar contacted Tamilarasan on July 18 under the pretext of asking him to service a motorcycle.
The two men subsequently met and consumed alcohol near Kannikapuram. Once Tamilarasan became intoxicated, Jayakumar allegedly threw chilli powder into his eyes and attacked him with an iron rod before fleeing the scene.
