Karungulam Devotees Cover in Mud for Mariamman Temple Festival

Devotees covered their bodies with mud and dressed up as Sethandi to fulfil vows during the 26th annual Aadi pongal mulapari utsava festival at the Sri Sakthi Mariamman temple in Karungulam village, near Kamudi in Ramanathapuram district.
The festival celebrations in Karungulam village began with the ceremonial hoisting of the flag at the temple. Throughout the festival, religious rituals are being conducted daily for the deity, Sakthi Mariamman. These daily observances include special abishekam, decoration, and deeparadhanai.
The main event of the festival drew a large number of devotees who dressed up as Sethandi and covered their bodies with mud as part of traditional vows to gain health and wellness.
At midnight, the participants took out a procession through the main streets of the village. Devotees danced enthusiastically to the sound of musical instruments before arriving at the Sri Sakthi Mariamman temple, where they fulfilled their vows.
