K Easwaran Shines with 15 Wickets for Trichy Grand Cholas in TNPL

CHENNAI — Medium pacer K Easwaran emerged as a standout performer for Trichy Grand Cholas in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, finishing his campaign with 15 wickets across seven games at an economy rate of 8.24 after taking another wicket in the Qualifier 2 clash against Kovai Kings.

The 29-year-old bowler, who plays for Nelson CC in the TNCA first division in Chennai, overcame severe personal challenges leading into the season. His mother passed away two weeks prior to the tournament, leaving him little time to train before suffering a side strain in camp.

Hailing from Padmanabhapuram near Nagercoil, Easwaran began his cricketing journey in local tennis-ball tournaments before transitioning to club cricket during his first year of college. He retained an unconventional bowling action featuring a small hop and a 360-degree arm swing developed during his tennis-ball days.

Easwaran gained recognition after claiming nine wickets for Kanyakumari's district side against Kanchipuram in 2016. By 2017, he served as a net bowler for both the Tamil Nadu state team and India 'A', subsequently competing for Indian Overseas Bank in the TNCA second division before joining Nelson CC in 2020.

He entered the TNPL in 2022 after being scouted by Nellai Royal Kings head coach M Shanmugam during team trials. After taking nine wickets in his debut season, he moved to Trichy in 2023, building a bowling partnership with teammate Athisayaraj Davidson.

Easwaran stated his ultimate goal is to earn a place in the Tamil Nadu senior cricket team.
