K Annamalai Urges Fair Solution on Mekedatu Dam Dispute

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president and 'We The Leaders' movement founder K Annamalai stated that the proposed Mekedatu dam project should not be pursued at the cost of Tamil Nadu's interests. Speaking at a gathering in Chennai, he urged the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to arrive at a fair solution to resolve the ongoing inter-state dispute.
Addressing the gathering, Annamalai emphasised that he has consistently stood for the interests of the people of Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP had opposed the Mekedatu project even during his tenure with the party.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Annamalai reiterated his stance, noting that while he supports positive change, safeguarding the rights of Tamil people remains paramount. He added that when an issue impacts two neighbouring states, the respective Chief Ministers should hold discussions together to secure an equitable resolution.
Annamalai also expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as an honest leader who acts fairly in resolving matters of public interest.
While acknowledging Karnataka's requirement to meet the drinking water needs of Bengaluru, Annamalai maintained that fulfilling those needs should not lead to the construction of a new dam that undermines Tamil Nadu's water security.
