K Annamalai to Address Mega Anti-Drug Rally in Pollachi

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is set to address a mega public rally in Pollachi, near Coimbatore, on Sunday as part of a "Drug Free" campaign. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, his prominent supporter Amar Prasad Reddy announced the upcoming conference, which is expected to draw between 50,000 and 75,000 participants.

The event marks Annamalai’s first major public appearance since he recently resigned from his position as the state BJP chief. The rally is being organized by the We the Leaders Foundation, a social organization currently spearheaded by Annamalai.

According to Reddy, the campaign addresses a critical issue that citizens are struggling with across both Tamil Nadu and the wider nation. He stated that the prevalence of drugs has become the single biggest threat to the state and the country, heavily impacting the youth and student populations.

"They are, you know, becoming too much addictive. So this is causing a lot of issues," Reddy told reporters in Chennai. He added that drug abuse has led to rising cases of depression among students.

In response to the crisis, Annamalai has declared the current month as a "drug-free month." As part of the awareness campaign, supporters and members of the public are being encouraged to wear white bands to show their solidarity with the cause.

Reddy emphasized that the upcoming conference in Pollachi, referred to as a "Maanadu," will remain entirely non-political. The focus of the gathering will be solely on addressing social issues, specifically the eradication of substance abuse among youth.

Aside from the mega rally, the We the Leaders Foundation is conducting a flurry of other community events to promote its drug-free message. These activities include a cricket match, a marathon, a medical camp, a walkathon, a cyclothon, and a badminton tournament. The foundation is also actively enrolling new members to expand its outreach efforts.
