IndiGo Raises Fuel Charges on Domestic and International Flights from October 6

IndiGo Raises Fuel Charges on Domestic and International Flights from October 6

IndiGo has increased fuel charges across its domestic and international flight networks following a sustained surge in Aviation Turbine Fuel prices. The airline announced that the revised charges apply to all new bookings made from 12.01am on October 6, pushing airfares higher for travellers departing from Chennai and other airports across the country.

Under the revised domestic fare structure, the fuel charge now ranges from Rs 375 for routes covering up to 500 kilometres to Rs 1,300 for sectors exceeding 2,000 kilometres. The airline has updated all five distance tiers, resulting in an overall domestic fuel component increase between Rs 100 and Rs 350 per sector.

For intermediate domestic distances, passengers travelling on routes spanning 501 to 1,000 kilometres will pay a fuel levy of Rs 600, while flights covering 1,001 to 1,500 kilometres now carry a charge of Rs 900. Domestic journeys between 1,501 and 2,000 kilometres will incur a fuel fee of Rs 1,150.

Prior to this revision, the airline levied Rs 275 for flights up to 500 kilometres, Rs 400 for 501 to 1,000 kilometres, Rs 600 for 1,001 to 1,500 kilometres, Rs 800 for 1,501 to 2,000 kilometres, and Rs 950 for sectors longer than 2,000 kilometres.

The airline stated that jet fuel prices have remained volatile in recent months, driven largely by geopolitical developments in the Middle East. A recent month-on-month increase of more than 14 per cent has pushed aviation fuel expenses to some of their highest levels recorded in the past decade.

International routes have also seen substantial fuel fee adjustments. Under the new rules, flights to SAARC destinations carry a fuel charge of Rs 1,000 for trips up to 500 kilometres and Rs 3,000 for journeys beyond 500 kilometres.

For longer international routes, IndiGo has set a Rs 5,500 fuel levy on services connecting to Southeast Asia, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the wider Middle East, and North and East Asia. Passengers flying on routes to Africa will now be charged a fuel levy of Rs 6,000.
