IndiGo Flight Aborts Landing at Chennai Airport Following Bird Strike Report

An IndiGo flight arriving in Chennai from Hyderabad was instructed to execute a go-around on Friday afternoon after a preceding flight from Port Blair reported a suspected bird strike on the taxiway at Chennai airport.

The Hyderabad–Chennai flight was on its final approach and was located approximately one nautical mile away from touchdown at around 3:28 pm when the go-around was initiated by aviation authorities.

Prior to the incident, an aircraft arriving from Port Blair had touched down at Chennai at around 3:25 pm. While moving along the taxiway after landing, the crew of the Port Blair flight reported a suspected bird strike.

Following the alert from the taxiway, a runway inspection was required to ascertain that the runway surface and associated movement areas were clear and entirely safe for continued aircraft operations.

The incoming Hyderabad flight was consequently directed to abort its landing approach as a precautionary safety measure to facilitate the inspection of the tarmac.

After the runway inspection was completed, the IndiGo aircraft resumed its approach and touched down safely at Chennai airport at approximately 3:45 pm.
