IIT Madras Opens GATE 2027 Registration Process

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has scheduled the opening of the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2027 on September 2 at 7 pm. Candidates seeking to appear for the national-level examination can submit their applications online, with the deadline to apply without a late fee set for September 27, 2026.

IIT Madras is serving as the organising institute for GATE 2027. The institute announced that the application link will be made live on the official portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

For the upcoming examination cycle, registration through DigiLocker has been made mandatory for all Indian nationals. The integration will automatically fetch key candidate details directly into the application, including the applicant's name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, profile picture, residential address, and verified identity card number.

According to the official exam structure released by the organising body, GATE 2027 will be administered in a Computer-Based Test mode across 30 papers. The test will have a duration of three hours and will be conducted entirely in English. The examination aims to evaluate candidates across several cognitive parameters, including recall, comprehension, application, analysis, and synthesis abilities.

Applicants are required to keep several documents ready during the online submission process. These include a passport-sized photograph, a digital copy of the candidate's signature, a government-issued photo identity proof, and relevant academic documents. Candidates applying under reserved categories or persons with disabilities must also upload category certificates or UDID certificates where applicable.

The organising institute has specified that the original government photo identity proof uploaded during registration must be presented in person by candidates when appearing at the examination centre.
