The Air Intelligence Unit of Chennai Customs arrested a 48-year-old Indian passenger at Chennai International Airport on Friday for attempting to smuggle hydroponic ganja valued at Rs 3 crore.

The passenger had arrived at the airport on a flight from Kuala Lumpur and had requested wheelchair assistance. Acting on passenger profiling, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit intercepted the individual when he attempted to exit through the green channel without declaring any items to customs.

A subsequent search of his baggage led to the discovery of six transparent airtight packets containing hydroponic ganja. The seized contraband weighed a total of 2,960 grams, with an estimated value of Rs 3 crore.

Customs officials confiscated the illicit narcotics and arrested the passenger under relevant provisions.
