Hospital Translator Injured After Jumping from 4th Floor in Aminjikarai

A 29-year-old medical translator was critically injured after she jumped from the fourth floor of a private hospital building located on Nelson Manickam Road in Aminjikarai, Chennai, following an inquiry by the facility's management.

The woman, identified as Swetha Ghosh, had been employed as a translator at the private hospital for the past seven years. Her role involved assisting international patients by translating medical information, explaining treatment procedures, and counselling them on hospital billing and charges.

According to preliminary police investigations, the incident stemmed from an issue regarding treatment charges for a foreign national. A patient from Bangladesh, identified as Kalpana, had been admitted to the facility, where she underwent medical treatment and delivered a baby. Following the procedure, hospital authorities claimed that the patient had paid Rs 10,000 instead of the required Rs 2 lakh fee. The management alleged that this occurred due to a communication failure regarding the total cost of the treatment.

Following the financial discrepancy, Swetha was summoned for questioning by the hospital administration. Police stated that she was questioned by the head of the hospital's administrative department along with two managers, identified as Antony and Balu. The inquiry took place on the fourth floor of the hospital premises and lasted for approximately 30 minutes.

Shortly after the meeting concluded, Swetha jumped from the fourth floor of the building. Hospital staff at the scene immediately attended to her and rushed her to another private hospital for emergency medical care.

She has been admitted to the hospital with severe injuries and remains in critical condition. Police are conducting further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
