Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi Event Called Off at Velachery Mall as 2,000 Gather

A promotional event for the upcoming movie 'Meesaya Murukku 2', featuring actor and musician Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, was called off on Saturday evening at Phoenix Marketcity in Velachery after a massive crowd of over 2,000 people gathered due to social media rumours of a live musical performance. The huge turnout caused severe traffic congestion across Velachery and raised safety concerns inside the venue.

The management of Phoenix Marketcity had obtained permission for the non-ticketed promotional event. However, as the crowd grew beyond capacity, police officials made the call to intervene and asked Aadhi's team to officially call off the program to ensure public safety.

According to a police department source, the event saw a particularly large turnout because it fell on a Saturday evening and entry was free. Although the shopping mall has the capacity to accommodate larger numbers overall, the visitors concentrated heavily around the specific spot where the stage was set. Police stated that this dense gathering in one area made the situation unmanageable.

The situation was further complicated later in the evening when rain began to fall, causing people to remain inside the shopping mall rather than dispersing. The heavy turnout and surrounding commotion led to severe traffic congestion on the roads in and around Velachery throughout Saturday night.

Attending fans described chaotic conditions inside the venue. A 22-year-old student who went to the mall with his friends said they had decided to go after seeing a social media post mentioning that the event was a live musical performance. He noted that it was extremely difficult to navigate through the dense crowd before they finally made their way out, adding that he later saw videos showing people stuck to a point where they could not move.

Following the police intervention, Aadhi released a video statement to address his fans. He expressed his disappointment over not being able to meet the crowd at the venue, explaining that he had been advised against proceeding by the police due to safety considerations.
