Government School Teacher Robbed of Gold Chain Near Vandalur Railway Station

A 49-year-old government school teacher was robbed of her seven-sovereign gold thali chain near the Vandalur railway station on Saturday evening. The Otteri police have registered a case and launched a search to trace the unidentified suspect.

The victim, identified as Selvi, is a resident of Mannivakkam near Vandalur and works at a government school in Oonamancheri. According to the police, she had been deputed to Oonamancheri on Saturday morning to carry out census work.

After finishing her duty, Selvi boarded a bus to the Vandalur bus stop at around 5:30 pm and began walking towards Mannivakkam along Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road. She climbed the foot overbridge situated near the Vandalur railway station to cross over.

As she was walking down the steps of the overbridge, the suspect, who had allegedly been trailing her, pushed her from behind, causing her to fall. The assailant then snatched her seven-sovereign gold chain and fled across the railway tracks.

Although several passers-by noticed the robbery and chased the suspect, he managed to evade them and escaped into an adjacent residential locality. During the incident, two sovereigns from the thali detached and fell to the ground, which were later recovered.

Following the attack, Selvi approached the Otteri police station and lodged a formal complaint. Investigators stated that they are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity to track the suspect's movements. Police suspect the involvement of habitual offenders in the robbery.
