GCC Vaccinates 5,06,426 Children Across Chennai in Pulse Polio Drive

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) vaccinated 5,06,426 children under the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Drive across all 15 zones of Chennai on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
The drive successfully achieved 91 percent vaccine coverage of the targeted 5,56,877 children aged between zero and five years in the city. The remaining 50,451 children who were not covered on Sunday are scheduled to receive the vaccine during upcoming mop-up rounds.
A large network of healthcare workers, volunteers, and supporting departments participated in the immunization drive. Officials utilized multiple methods to distribute the vaccine, ensuring wide reach across Chennai's neighborhoods.
While the majority of the children were vaccinated at fixed booths set up across the 15 zones, teams also administered the vaccine at transit points. In addition, mobile teams and house-to-house visits were deployed to reach children who could not make it to the booths.
According to GCC officials, the upcoming mop-up rounds are designed to ensure that every single eligible child in the city receives the life-saving polio vaccine.
