GCC To Open Six Chief Minister Co-Working Spaces In North Chennai

The Greater Chennai Corporation is preparing to open six new Chief Minister’s co-working spaces across North Chennai, specifically in Purasaiwalkam, Periyar Nagar, Otteri, Pulianthope, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, and Kolathur. Built by the DMK government prior to the elections, the facilities are currently awaiting their official inauguration and will soon be opened to the public.

To facilitate the opening, the civic body has floated tenders to outsource housekeeping services for these centres for a period of one year. While a private agency will handle the day-to-day cleaning and staffing, the Greater Chennai Corporation will retain full technical and administrative control over the properties.

Each of the six upcoming co-working spaces will be staffed with two sweepers, two receptionists, and two security guards. While the housekeeping is outsourced, the civic body will directly manage data operations, IT infrastructure, and electrical maintenance. The corporation has also tied up with internet service provider ACT to provide internet connectivity at these locations.

G Chokkalingampillai, the Greater Chennai Corporation's zonal officer for Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, confirmed that the administration will handle the maintenance of the centres internally. He noted that all electronic devices installed at the facilities are covered under a one-year manufacturer’s warranty, which removes the need for a separate maintenance contract for the equipment.

According to Chokkalingampillai, the first such co-working centre, located on Jaganathan Street in Kolathur, is currently being managed by a private firm. However, the housekeeping and basic operations for the other five upcoming centres have now been put out to tender.

The project aims to provide local residents with accessible, modern workspaces equipped with reliable power and high-speed internet. An official opening date has not yet been announced, but the facilities are expected to become operational shortly after the tendering process concludes.
