Four UP men jailed for six years for Manapakkam currency exchange burglary

An Alandur magistrate court on Tuesday sentenced four men from Uttar Pradesh to six years of rigorous imprisonment for burglarizing a foreign currency exchange office on Parthasarathy Street in Manapakkam, Chennai. The court also imposed a fine of ₹80,000 on each of the convicted men, delivering the verdict within five months of the crime.
The four convicted individuals were identified by the police as Riku Amarsingh Chauhan, 27, Jugendra Singh, 19, Abhishek Singh, 20, and Yogesh Kumar, 32. All of the accused are natives of Uttar Pradesh.
The case began following a complaint filed by 38-year-old Joseph Dominic, who operated the foreign currency exchange business on Parthasarathy Street. Dominic told the police that he had locked his office on the night of January 7, 2026. When he returned to the shop the next morning, he discovered that the shutter lock had been broken and ₹25,000 in cash was missing from the office.
Following the complaint, the Nandambakkam police registered a case and launched a formal investigation into the burglary. Investigators scanned CCTV footage from around the crime scene, which revealed that the four men had arrived at the shop in an autorickshaw. The footage showed them forcing open the shutter of the office and stealing the cash before fleeing the scene.
The investigation quickly led the police to trace the suspects' movements outside the state. A special police team from Chennai travelled to Surat in Gujarat to track down the accused. With the assistance of the local Surat police, the Chennai team successfully arrested Chauhan, Jugendra Singh, Abhishek Singh, and Kumar on January 12, 2026.
After their arrest in Gujarat, the four men were brought back to Chennai and remanded in judicial custody. The prosecution presented the evidence, leading to the speedy trial and conviction by the Alandur magistrate court.
