Four More Juveniles Who Escaped Chengalpet Facility Traced, Five Secured So Far

Four more juveniles who escaped from the Government Correctional Facility for Boys and Girls in Chengalpet on Friday night were traced and secured on Sunday, taking the total number of detainees apprehended so far to five.

According to authorities, three of the four juveniles traced on Sunday were located in Puducherry, while the fourth was detained in Villupuram. One juvenile had earlier been secured near a railway track on Friday night shortly after the breakout. Police teams are continuing their search operations to trace the remaining six who are still missing.

A total of 11 children in conflict with the law escaped from the Chengalpet facility on Friday night, marking the third such escape incident reported at the correctional home this year. Sources stated that the children, aged between 14 and 18, are facing cases involving serious offences, including Pocso violations, attempted murder, and other crimes.

The escape reportedly unfolded after a failed plan by some inmates to clash with another group inside the correctional home. After the facility's main gate was locked, the group moved toward D Block and scaled the compound wall using a ladder and bedsheets.

Police stated that the children did not assault the facility's staff, but attempted to attack them with a log when staff members intervened to stop them from fleeing.

Further investigation into the incident is currently ongoing while police continue efforts to track down the remaining six detainees.
