Former MLA Esakki Subaya Submits Resignation Explanation to Speaker at Secretariat

Former Ambasamudram MLA Esakki Subaya met with Speaker J C D Prabhakar at the secretariat in Chennai on Friday to submit his explanation regarding his resignation from the legislative assembly.
The explanation was delivered in response to a show-cause notice issued to Subaya. The notice followed a representation by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who sought action against party MLAs for alleged "cross-voting" during a motion of confidence in the assembly.
Subaya is one of four rebel MLAs who resigned from their legislative posts. The other three MLAs had already appeared before the Speaker to submit their respective explanations a few days prior.
Following these resignations, the AIADMK has approached the Madras High Court. The party is challenging the Assembly Speaker's decision to accept the resignations of the rebel MLAs while proceedings under the anti-defection law were still pending against them.
