Former DMK Councillor Jesudoss Dies by Suicide in Palavanthangal

A 54-year-old Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) functionary and former Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) councillor, identified as Jesudoss, was found dead at his house in Palavanthangal near Alandur on Tuesday morning. According to local police reports, the former councillor died by suicide, with preliminary inquiries pointing to emotional distress over recent political developments and family issues.

Jesudoss was a well-known local political figure in the area. In addition to being a former GCC councillor, he served as the DMK’s ward secretary. He was also the husband of the current sitting DMK councillor for ward 164.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when his family members noticed that his room had remained locked for a long time. After failing to get a response, the family members broke open the locked door and discovered him dead inside. They immediately alerted the local police.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police stated that Jesudoss had been under considerable emotional distress in recent weeks. This distress was reportedly triggered by the DMK’s defeat in the Assembly election. Family members informed the police that on Monday night, Jesudoss had spoken at length about the election results and discussed the deep impact the political defeat had on him.

Alongside the political distress, police officials noted that there were also existing conflicts within the family that may have contributed to his state of mind.
