Five Dead After Ammonia Gas Leak at Tiruvallur Seafood Processing Unit

Five people have died following an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing unit in Kannigaipair–Manjankaranai, near Periyapalayam in the Tiruvallur district. The death toll rose to five on Monday morning after three more victims succumbed to the gas inhalation.

The leak occurred on Sunday at the private processing facility. According to a state Health Department bulletin, three of the injured victims passed away by 7 a.m. on Monday, raising the death toll to five.

The hazardous gas leak has affected a total of 74 people. Among those affected, 67 workers are currently undergoing medical treatment and remain under observation across multiple hospitals.

Health officials continue to monitor the condition of the hospitalized workers. No further details regarding the cause of the leak at the seafood firm have been released.
