Fingerprint Leads Basin Bridge Police to Suspect in Pulianthope Burglary

A fingerprint recovered from a house in Pulianthope has led the Basin Bridge police to arrest a man for allegedly stealing ₹46,000 from his girlfriend's family residence.

The suspect, identified as Dineshkumar, is a resident of the Otteri Dhobikana Housing Board area. According to police, he had been in a relationship with the complainant’s daughter for six years and used his familiarity with the household to carry out the theft.

The incident came to light after the complainant, 38-year-old Selvi, returned to her home in K P Park, Pulianthope, around 1 a.m. on August 19 after completing her shift as a Greater Chennai Corporation sanitary worker. Upon checking a bureau inside the house, she discovered that ₹46,000 in cash was missing. Her husband runs a tiffin shop near their residence.

Finding no signs of forced entry into the house, Selvi suspected that someone familiar with the family’s daily routine might have taken the cash. Police stated that the intruder had gained access by using a house key that the family routinely kept hidden in a specific spot.

Selvi subsequently lodged a formal complaint with the Basin Bridge police. Following the complaint, a specialised team from the Chintadripet fingerprint bureau visited the crime scene to examine the premises and lifted fingerprints from the house.

During analysis, one of the recovered fingerprints matched the records of an individual linked to a previous criminal case registered at the Royapettah police station in 2023. Using the database match, investigators identified Dineshkumar and detained him for questioning before securing his arrest.
