Family Members Seek Help as 4 Pilgrims From Karur Go Missing in Nepal

Families of four pilgrims from Karur who travelled to Nepal on a spiritual tour are in deep distress after losing contact with them, amid fears that the group may have been caught in flash floods in the country. The relatives have reached out to multiple authorities, including the special centre opened at Chennai, seeking assistance to trace their missing family members.

The four individuals, including three women, have been identified as Tamilarasi of Arunachala Nagar, Dhanalakshmi of KVB Nagar, Karpagam of Kamarajapuram East, and Anbarasu, son of Venkatachalam, from North Gandhi Gram. All four had embarked on the journey together as part of the same tour group on August 14.

According to family members, numerous attempts to reach the four pilgrims over their mobile phones have been unsuccessful. Anxious relatives have continuously approached the district collectorate, the district police department, and the special centre opened at Chennai, but they have not yet received any concrete information regarding the whereabouts or safety of the missing group.

Karpagam’s husband, Periyasamy, stated that he was able to stay in touch with his wife until Wednesday. During their last conversation, she mentioned that the group was waiting for immigration clearance at an office situated on the border between Nepal and China. Communication ceased entirely after that point. In an effort to locate his wife, Periyasamy said he has sent several individuals to Delhi and to the India-Nepal border.

Anbarasu works as a primary school headmaster at Puliyur Kalipalayam. His daughter said that she had regularly asked her father to share his location throughout the journey. Following her request, he shared his location daily up to Wednesday.

The final location shared by Anbarasu indicated that the group was waiting for immigration clearance at the border office between Nepal and China. Since then, the family has been unable to contact him. His daughter has appealed to both the Central and state governments to locate and secure her father safely in Nepal and bring him back home at the earliest.
