EV Registrations Reach Record 3.3 Lakh Units in September Across India

Electric vehicle registrations across the country touched an all-time high of 3.3 lakh units in September, according to data from the Vahan registration dashboard reported from Chennai. The milestone marked the fourth consecutive month in which overall EV registrations crossed the 3-lakh threshold, reflecting sustained nationwide momentum for battery-powered mobility.
The final registration tally for the month is expected to rise further. A typical time lag occurs before all vehicle registrations completed across regional transport offices are fully reflected on the central Vahan dashboard.
The September sales expansion was broad-based across segments, with both electric two-wheelers and electric passenger vehicles establishing new monthly records. Electric two-wheelers led the surge, climbing to an unprecedented 2.07 lakh units and posting substantial year-on-year growth.
Major manufacturers recorded notable gains during the month. TVS Motor more than doubled its volumes year-on-year to approximately 54,000 units. The performance marked a rebound back above the 50,000-unit threshold after the company's monthly volumes dipped below that mark in August.
Bajaj also saw its volumes more than double on a year-on-year basis, reaching roughly 48,400 units in September. Bengaluru-based Ather registered approximately 30,500 units during the month, expanding from 19,620 units recorded in the corresponding period.
Other key players in the two-wheeler sector contributed to the record monthly volume. Hero delivered more than 24,300 units, Ola registered upwards of 13,450 units, and Greaves accounted for more than 9,300 units across the country.
