EPS Slams Government Over Mounting Debt and Power Cuts at Dharmapuri Event

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday criticized the Tamil Nadu government over its mounting fiscal deficit and recurring power outages, asserting that the AIADMK remains the only political party genuinely addressing the grievances of the public.

Palaniswami made the remarks while addressing a mass induction event held in Dharmapuri, where cadres from various political outfits joined the AIADMK. During the gathering, he contrasted his previous administration's governance and track record with that of the current regime.

Terming the current government's rise to power an "accident," Palaniswami strongly targeted its fiscal management and public borrowing. He highlighted that the government had borrowed ₹28,000 crore in just a single month.

"Just as a son inherits his father’s debt, the public will ultimately bear this massive financial burden," Palaniswami said during his speech. He maintained that the previous AIADMK administration had resorted to borrowing only when it was strictly essential.

Midway through Palaniswami's address, a sudden power outage plunged the venue hall into darkness, compelling the organizers to switch over to a backup generator.

Seizing on the disruption, Palaniswami criticized the administration directly, quipping that the power cut served as a hallmark of the current governance. He remarked that blackouts have become routine across the state, while stating that the AIADMK regime had ensured uninterrupted 24x7 electricity supply for the people.
