EPS Criticizes Internal Detractors and Assures AIADMK Will Overcome Challenges

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami criticized internal detractors on Tuesday during an address to party cadres in Chennai. Palaniswami alleged that certain individuals were attempting to weaken the party despite having previously enjoyed power and organizational positions under its banner. He asserted that these attempts to destabilize the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) would fail.

In a formal letter addressed to the party cadres, Palaniswami urged functionaries not to lose hope regarding the party's political future. He strongly advised members against taking extreme steps, specifically referencing the suicide of party functionary KS Mahendran in Thanjavur district amid the ongoing internal rift. Palaniswami appealed to cadres and functionaries not to resort to such actions.

Palaniswami sought to reassure the party faithful by drawing parallels to past electoral challenges. He reminded them that the party's former leaders had navigated similar periods of difficulty in the past.

"Our leaders Puratchi Thalaivar MGR and Puratchi Thalaivi Amma will always be with us," Palaniswami wrote in his letter. "Do not be dejected by the party’s current situation. AIADMK has overcome difficult phases in 1988, 1989 and 1996."

He recalled that the party had won only four seats in the 1996 assembly elections. He noted that former party leader J Jayalalithaa had faced betrayal with courage and successfully steered the party back to victory in the subsequent election.

Pointing out that political journeys involve both victories and defeats, Palaniswami expressed confidence that the AIADMK would return to power. He emphasized that the party's foundational leaders had witnessed both victories and defeats throughout their careers, and therefore, current cadres should not lose heart over recent setbacks.

He assured the cadres that the leadership is actively taking all necessary steps to revive the party and requested their continued support.
