EPS Accuses State Government of Failing Delta Farmers on Cauvery Issue

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday criticised the state government over its handling of the Cauvery water dispute, stating that farmers in the delta region are struggling to survive due to the administration's lack of experience.

Speaking to reporters in Salem, Palaniswami alleged that the ruling government had no understanding of the Cauvery dispute and had failed to secure Tamil Nadu's rightful share of monthly water allocations.

He made these remarks after flagging off two ambulances donated by Tirukoilur MLA S Palanisamy, fulfilling an election promise made by the legislator.

Palaniswami stated that despite sufficient water storage in Karnataka's reservoirs, the state government had not pressed effectively for water release. He remarked that because of this inexperience, delta farmers have been left without necessary water supplies.

Commenting on the chief minister's Independence Day speech projecting a trillion-dollar economy by 2036, Palaniswami questioned the government's longevity and performance, alleging that the administration has been unable to implement court orders secured during the previous AIADMK regime. He added that while surplus water is flowing from Karnataka dams, the state government delayed action and failed to carry out maintenance work across the delta.

Palaniswami also criticised the administration's handling of the Mekedatu dam issue, stating that it could not properly bring a resolution in the assembly. He noted that the AIADMK will press for a tribunal, adding that since the original resolution was moved by the chief minister, any amendment must follow due procedure.
