Eight Mega Deals in August Lift India's PE-VC Inflows to $23.6 Billion

Eight mega deals recorded in August helped revive India's private equity and venture capital (PE-VC) investments, pushing the cumulative funding for the January to August period to $23.6 billion, according to data released on Tuesday by Chennai-based research firm Venture Intelligence.

The $23.6 billion total for the first eight months of the year mirrored the investment levels recorded during the identical period in the previous year. The data covers all major PE-VC transactions across sectors while excluding investments in the real estate domain.

August witnessed the highest number of mega deals—defined as transactions valued at $100 million and above—recorded in a single month this year. While total PE-VC funding across all 99 transactions in August reached $3.3 billion, the eight mega deals alone made up approximately 72 percent of the monthly value, totaling $2.4 billion.

Among the standout transactions in August, the funding round was led by an investment involving Alpha Alternatives, which was valued at approximately Rs 7,500 crore. Across the entire current year to date, a total of 874 PE-VC deals have been registered.

Arun Natarajan, founder of Venture Intelligence, noted that the investment figures in August were driven by large-ticket transactions across several key industries. He stated that the month benefited from a flurry of large deals across the infrastructure, manufacturing, healthcare, and financial sectors, with both domestic and foreign investors continuing to deploy capital amid resilient public markets and initial public offerings.
