Eight Injured in Monkey Attack on Thulukanathamman Koil Street Near Guduvanchery

An aggressive monkey attacked and injured eight residents, including a three-year-old child, on Thulukanathamman Koil Street in the Nandivaram municipality near Guduvanchery on Friday. The animal turned violent in the residential area after being chased from a water source, leading to a coordinated rescue operation by the police and forest department.
The incident began when a group of local women gathered at a public tap on Thulukanathamman Koil Street to collect drinking water. According to eyewitness accounts from residents, a monkey approached the public tap with the apparent intention of drinking water. However, some of the women at the scene allegedly chased the animal away.
Following this intervention, the monkey became highly aggressive. The animal began chasing residents through the neighborhood streets and biting those it encountered. During the rampage, the monkey targeted a woman and her three-year-old child near a local anganwadi centre. Other residents who witnessed the attack and tried to drive the aggressive animal away were also bitten and injured.
As panic spread through the Nandivaram neighborhood, local police were alerted to the ongoing animal attack. The police department immediately contacted the forest department to handle the situation. A rescue team from the Tambaram forest division was dispatched to the locality.
The forest department team launched an operation to secure the animal. After prolonged efforts in the residential area, the team successfully captured the aggressive monkey. Following its capture, the animal was safely relocated and shifted to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur.
The eight injured residents were initially taken to nearby hospitals to receive emergency medical attention. Due to the severity of the injuries sustained during the attack, the three-year-old child was subsequently referred to the Chengalpet Government Medical College Hospital for further specialized treatment.
