DVAC Seizes ₹69,000 in Cash from Tangedco Staff During Raid in Nanganallur

Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials seized ₹69,000 from two Tangedco employees during a raid at the electricity distribution office in Nanganallur on Wednesday, following complaints regarding bribe demands.

The anti-graft agency initiated the operation after receiving multiple grievances against officials and employees stationed at the local office. The complaints alleged that staff were demanding money to process requests for new power connections to residences and commercial establishments, execute service connection transfers, and replace faulty electricity meters.

During the search of the premises, DVAC sleuths recovered ₹59,000 in cash from an assistant divisional engineer. An additional ₹10,000 was seized from another Tangedco employee working at the facility.

Following the seizure, both employees were asked by the investigating team to explain the source of the recovered money. After they failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the cash at the office, the DVAC recommended that senior Tangedco officials initiate departmental action against the duo.

A further inquiry is currently under way to establish whether the seized funds were collected as bribes and to verify other specific allegations made by consumers against staff at the Nanganallur office.
