Driver arrested after fatal ECR hit-and-run sparks protest in Neelankarai

NEELANKARAI — A 50-year-old man was killed on Monday night after a speeding car rammed into his two-wheeler on the East Coast Road (ECR) at Neelankarai, triggering a road blockade by angry residents.
The victim, identified as K Raju, was riding his two-wheeler when the speeding car struck him. He was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Following the hit-and-run, local residents staged a road blockade on the ECR for nearly an hour. The protesters alleged that there was a delay by the police in securing the suspect.
The Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing police arrived at the scene to pacify the protesting residents. Following their intervention, the police arrested the car driver, identified as 28-year-old S Sasikumar.
The police have booked Sasikumar under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
