DMK Sets 70-Year Age Cap for District Secretaries and Limits Tenure to Two Terms

The DMK on Saturday introduced major organisational reforms, setting a maximum age limit of 70 years for its district secretaries and capping their tenure at two terms. The decision was finalised during the party's executive committee meeting held at its headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, in Chennai.
The overhaul is aimed at bringing younger leaders into leadership roles following the party's 2026 assembly election setback. As part of the resolution, the party will restructure its entire organisational framework from the district level down to the ward level.
Under the new structure, the DMK will establish 110 organisational districts across the state. Each organisational district will comprise two Assembly constituencies based on revenue districts. In cases where a single constituency is left over, it will be attached as a third constituency to an appropriate organisational district within the same revenue district.
Following the formal announcement of the new districts by the DMK president, district executive committee meetings will be convened. The party's union, town, area, and ward-level units must be finalised within 15 days in accordance with the new guidelines.
A second round of district executive committee meetings will subsequently take place in the presence of an observer deputed by the party headquarters to officially approve the reorganisation.
