DMK President MK Stalin Constitutes 10-Member Party Reorganisation Panel in Chennai

On Tuesday, DMK President M K Stalin announced the constitution of a 10-member party reorganisation advisory panel in Chennai to recommend structural changes to the party. The move follows the party's recent defeat in the April 23, 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the C Joseph Vijay-led TVK won 108 seats, while the incumbent DMK secured only 59 seats.
The newly formed panel is tasked with studying feedback received from party cadres and others to recommend changes in the party structure from the branch level to the apex level. According to Stalin, these reforms aim to eliminate past shortcomings, rejuvenate the party, and help it approach the public in a fresh format to win future elections.
The decision comes after Stalin reviewed reports from a 38-member committee previously set up to assess the ground situation by interacting with party workers. Additionally, the party collected approximately six lakh opinions online, which were processed using artificial intelligence to prepare a report.
Stalin stated that the collective opinion received advocated for reorganising the party in sync with present times. He noted that this is the right time to carry out the necessary restructuring to rejuvenate the party.
The 10-member advisory committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the party president in the first week of August. The panel's recommendations will cover the re-demarcation of party districts, restructuring of various party wings, reorganisation of various committees including those related to polls, establishing a permanent setup for election work, and creating a 'Think tank' to advise the leadership.
Once the recommendations are submitted, the reorganisation will be implemented after thorough discussions within top-level party bodies and with district secretaries.
The panel will be led by party leaders Thangam Thennarasu, Geetha Jeevan, R Sakkarapani, and SS Sivasankar. The other members of the committee are party functionaries Tamilarasi Ravikumar, MM Abdullah, I Paranthamen, S Murasoli, M P Ezhilan, and SKP Karuna.
