DMK President M K Stalin Revamps Party Structure, Increases Units to 110

DMK president M. K. Stalin announced a major organisational revamp on Friday, expanding the number of party districts across Tamil Nadu from 77 to 110, including dividing Chennai into 10 separate party districts. Under the new arrangement, the state's largest constituency, Sholinganallur in Chennai, will function as a standalone party district.

Stalin stated that the restructuring was carried out based on recommendations from a dedicated committee and consultations with senior party leaders. The move comes ahead of the DMK's 16th organisational elections, following 15 previous internal elections held over the party's history.

According to the official statement, most of the newly formed party districts will comprise two or three Assembly seats each. Outside Chennai, other revenue districts across the state have been reorganised to contain between one and five party districts depending on size and requirements.

District secretaries across all 110 new units have been instructed to prepare plans within two weeks to establish town, union, regional, town panchayat, circle, and branch units. These lower-level units will be finalised in the presence of representatives deputed directly from party headquarters.

Stalin noted that the reorganisation is part of broader measures to renew the party structure and strengthen engagement with the public following recent Assembly election outcomes.
