DMK MLA Sekar Babu Questioned Over Election Day Clash in Harbour

DMK MLA P K Sekar Babu was questioned for nearly three hours by the North Beach police on Wednesday in connection with a clash between DMK and TVK functionaries in the Harbour constituency on the Assembly election polling day.

According to police sources, Sekar Babu appeared before the investigating officer at the Esplanade police station following a case registered by the North Beach police.

During the questioning session, investigators showed the legislator photographs and video recordings purportedly documenting the clash. The footage had been recorded by members of both political parties and was subsequently circulated across social media platforms.

The altercation originally broke out between TVK functionaries, including the party’s Harbour constituency candidate Sinora Ashok, and DMK members. Police reported that an initial verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical scuffle, leaving several TVK functionaries injured.

Following the violence, TVK functionary Muralidharan filed a formal complaint against Sekar Babu with the North Beach police. Officers subsequently registered a case and issued summons instructing the MLA to appear for questioning.

Police stated that Sekar Babu cooperated fully with the inquiry throughout the three-hour session. His formal statement was recorded by the investigating officer before he was allowed to leave the police station.
