DMK MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan Arrested After Madras High Court Rejects Bail Petition

DMK MLA and former Tamil Nadu minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan was arrested by the police on Friday after the Madras High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail petition. The arrest, which took place at a government office where Radhakrishnan was inspecting local development works, follows a case registered over allegedly defamatory and inflammatory remarks he made against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

The criminal case stems from a speech delivered by Radhakrishnan at a public meeting held in Athur near Tiruchendur on June 20. The public meeting was organized as part of the birth anniversary celebrations of the former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

According to police officials, Radhakrishnan made inflammatory remarks against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who also serves as the president of the TVK party, during his address at the June event. Following the public speech, a formal case was registered against the DMK leader.

Anticipating his arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation, Radhakrishnan had approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail. However, the High Court dismissed his petition on Friday, clearing the way for law enforcement to take action.

Following the court’s decision, officers from the Athur Police Station moved to apprehend the MLA. Radhakrishnan was visiting a government office to inspect local development works when the police team arrived and took him into custody.

The police action met with immediate resistance from local party members. A crowd of DMK workers surrounded the police personnel at the government office and attempted to prevent them from taking the MLA away.

The party workers blocked the path of the police vehicle and raised slogans against the TVK-led government. Despite the protests and attempts to block the vehicle, the police team successfully took Radhakrishnan into custody.
