DMK Member Manickam Hacked to Death Outside Salem Home

A 56-year-old DMK member was hacked to death in the early hours of Tuesday while sleeping outside his residence in Vellaiyur village, near Thalaivasal in Salem district. The victim, identified as Manickam, was discovered by his family members in the morning, drawing immediate attention from local law enforcement and neighbors in the area.

According to police reports, the incident occurred while Manickam was asleep in the open area outside his house. In the morning, his second wife, Indira, stepped outside and discovered him lying in a pool of blood. She immediately raised an alarm, alerting nearby residents and family members to the tragedy.

Upon hearing her cries, Manickam’s son from his first marriage, Udhay Prakash, rushed to the scene from a neighboring house. He found his father dead at the spot, and a crowd of local residents quickly gathered. The neighbors subsequently contacted the Veeraganur police to report the murder.

Following the alert, a team of senior police officials arrived at the crime scene to oversee the initial investigation. The visiting officers included Salem District Superintendent of Police S Kuthalingam and Attur Deputy Superintendent of Police Sathyaraj, along with a team of officers from the Veeraganur police station. Together, they inspected the area where the body was found.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the killing may be linked to an ongoing family conflict. Superintendent of Police S Kuthalingam stated that Manickam had been involved in a long-standing dispute with some of his relatives over a parcel of agricultural land. Investigators believe this property conflict is the likely reason behind the murder.

To assist with the investigation, forensic science experts and sniffer dogs were brought to the location to collect physical evidence and trace the suspects. The Veeraganur police have officially registered a murder case and are continuing their inquiries into the incident to apprehend those responsible.
