DMK Considers Expanding District Units from 78 to Over 100

The DMK leadership in Chennai is considering a plan to restructure its organisational framework by increasing the number of party district units from the current 78 to more than 100. The proposal is expected to be discussed at the party's upcoming executive committee meeting scheduled for August 22.

Frontline leaders met DMK president M K Stalin at his residence on Thursday to review the restructuring plans. The meeting was attended by DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Kanimozhi, and T R Baalu.

The discussions were guided by recommendations from a 10-member advisory committee constituted to suggest measures for strengthening the party. Key proposals include creating additional district units, assigning district-level posts to more youngsters and women, and establishing state-level roles for veteran leaders who joined the DMK from other political parties, including O Panneerselvam.

The proposed increase in district units is intended to streamline party administration and create new leadership posts for a wider pool of functionaries. Alongside appointing new leaders, the party is also likely to replace underperforming functionaries, including sitting district secretaries.
