DMK Chief MK Stalin Expands Party Organisational Districts to 110

DMK president M K Stalin on Friday announced a major administrative restructuring of the party, expanding the total number of organisational districts to 110 from the previous 77. The announcement came on the day he entered his ninth year as party president, ahead of the DMK's upcoming organisational elections.

Under the new delineation strategy recommended by the party reorganisation committee, constituency boundaries were redistributed across Tamil Nadu. Notably, owing to its vast population density, the Sholinganallur assembly constituency in Chennai has been carved out as an independent party district.

The party had earlier favoured a sweeping structural overhaul and the induction of young blood during its executive committee meeting held at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK state headquarters, on August 22. The DMK also fixed strict age caps and limited terms for party posts following its electoral setback in the April 2026 Assembly election.

In an official statement, Stalin emphasised that the foundational pillars of the DMK—ideology, organisation, activities, and fraternal bodies—required periodic renewal to adapt to changing political landscapes.

Following the announcement, existing district committee secretaries were instructed to convene their respective executive meetings within 15 days in the presence of observers appointed by the party headquarters. These officials have been tasked with submitting recommendations to realign party structures across city, union, area, town, circle, and branch levels to match the newly revised district boundaries.

Reflecting on his tenure on social media, Stalin recalled taking charge of the party leadership on the same day in 2018 and reaffirmed his commitment to the continuous evolution of the organisation.
